Can religion stand up to the progress of science?
This question was the main topic of an interesting online article I found about the science and religion debate.
If you type science vs. religion in Google you get 25,700,000 results. So it is unarguably a hot debate.
The article argued that science has moved at an incredibly fast rate in the last two hundred years. It has put a grasp and quantified many of the things that religion explained for previous generations.
However, it also mentions the multiverse hypothesis in cosmology speculates that ours may be but one in a cascade of universes, suddenly bettering the odds that life could have cropped up here accidentally, without divine intervention.
However, religion depends on faith. And although it is a perfect system for a harmouniously functioning society when practiced correctly, it is in essence not logical that God said let there be light and everything happened.
However, modern humans depend too much on proof and support and sourcing and less so on the power of faith.
I truly believe that religion is dwindling in modern societies and the emphasis on science, logic and proof is gaining momentum. What will come for the future in religion is uncertain.
Only time will tell.

Recommended book
I recently read Angels and Demons by Dan Brown, who gained much of his fame with his contreversial Da Vinci Code.
It has many themes about the strong and constant battle between science and religion.
It is an interesting fast read, and I recommened it to anyone interested in the intertwining of science and religion.

More Religious Rambling
Religion could be thought of in many ways depending on what lens it is being looked at.
It could be a mass control system, or a system of uni-formal harmony. It could teach you to love but manipulate you to hate. It can teach you patience but can make you impatient.
The problem I see in all major worldly religions is that they claim to be correct. Their rule, their view, their perspective trumps all other religions.
This is a seed for conflict as it destroys the pure form of religion which teaches insatiable love. For those of the same faith and those of different ones. But lately it seems religions are causing more problems than not.
They are giving reason for people to differentiate and alienate others. They are used to excuse violence and other inexcusable things.
